Claude for Chrome
Anthropic
Claude for Chrome puts a side panel right in your browser. You open it while you browse, and you can ask questions about what you are looking at without copying text back and forth.
What can you use it for?
Got a long article you don't really have time to read? Select the text or ask Claude to summarize the whole page. It works equally well on news articles, research reports and product reviews.
You can also use it while shopping online. Ask Claude to compare products on the page, check specifications or find the one that fits your needs. Just be aware that Claude tends to suggest the first thing that looks right without digging through every option. Double-check yourself if the choice matters. Claude can fill in forms for you too.
Claude knows popular sites like Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack and GitHub. You can say "schedule a meeting" or "send a message" without explaining every step.
Automate things you do often
Do you repeat the same steps in the browser over and over? You can record a workflow by doing it yourself while Claude watches (this only works in "Classic" mode), and next time Claude does it for you. Save it as a shortcut, and put it on a schedule if you like, daily, weekly or monthly.
Claude keeps working in the background even if you switch tabs, and notifies you when the task is done.
Limitations
It only works in Chrome. You need a paid Claude plan to use the Claude extension in Chrome.
The extension sends the content of the page you are looking at to Anthropic in order to answer you. Use it freely on news articles and blog posts, but think twice before opening it on your online bank or pages with health information.
For general browsing and product hunting, our experience is that it saves limited time today, especially if you have to verify what Claude came up with anyway. For simpler things it works fine.
For web developers
Combined with Claude Code you can build in the terminal, open the result in Chrome, and let the extension read error messages and page structure directly. Useful for design verification, live debugging and testing without switching context.
How to use it
Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store. Open the side panel from the extension icon while you browse. Claude can read the content of the page you are on. Ask for a summary, an analysis, or help with forms. For web development: use it alongside Claude Code for a complete build-test-debug workflow.

Tips for good use
- Use it to summarize long articles and reports you don't have time to read.

- Set up scheduled tasks for things you check regularly, so you don't have to remember them yourself.
- Save prompts you use often as shortcuts. Faster than typing the same instruction again.
- For online shopping: ask Claude to compare products on the page. But double-check yourself, since Claude tends to suggest the first thing that looks right.
- For web development: let Claude read console errors and page structure, and combine it with Claude Code for debugging.
- Claude knows Gmail, Slack and Google Calendar well enough that you can say "schedule a meeting" without explaining every step.
- Think about which pages you use it on. The extension sends page content to Anthropic. Avoid online banking, health records and similar.
