Claude for PowerPoint

Anthropic

Claude for PowerPoint is an add-in that lets Claude help you with presentations directly in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Uses your existing template and colors

Claude analyzes the template and color use when you work in an existing presentation, including layout, fonts and colors. The content is created as editable PowerPoint objects rather than images, so you can adjust everything afterwards.

What you can do

  • Build new slides from text or data
  • Restructure existing slides
  • Turn bullet lists into charts
  • Add basic charts and shapes

Shared context with Excel

Analyze the data in Excel, switch to PowerPoint, and Claude uses the Excel context directly in the presentation.

Skills

Skills work in PowerPoint too, and they are genuinely useful for producing slides with a fixed layout.

An honest assessment

This works surprisingly well for slides that look good enough for everyday use, as long as you have a structured presentation or a Skill as a starting point. Claude cannot create images, so the slides end up fairly basic, but you can ask Claude to add placeholders for images that you fill in later. Of the AI tools that work directly in PowerPoint, Claude is in our view one of the best.

How to use it

Install the add-in from the Microsoft Marketplace. Start from an existing presentation so Claude reads and reuses the design and structure. Describe the structure you want: number of slides, audience, purpose and tone. Claude generates a draft you can build on.

Features

Brand template

Claude reads and follows the design of the presentation it is working in. Fonts, colors and layout stay consistent.

Editable output

Charts, shapes and tables are editable PowerPoint objects, not images.

Shared context with Excel

Go from data analysis in Excel to a presentation in PowerPoint in one connected workflow.

Skills

Build reusable recipes for the presentation types you make often. Describe the layout once, for example a weekly status report, and Claude follows the template every time.

Build slides from text or data

Give Claude a document, an Excel sheet or notes, and it produces finished slides from the content. No manual copying and pasting.

Tips for good use

  • Be specific with your instructions. 'Build an internal Q1 status report for the leadership team, 8 slides, in Norwegian' gives a much better result than 'make a presentation'.
  • Ask Claude to add speaker notes for each slide. It makes the presentation easier to deliver and doubles as documentation.
  • Claude cannot create images, so the slides come out fairly text-heavy. Ask it to add placeholders (empty frames describing what the image should be) that you fill in afterwards with your own or AI-generated images.
  • Work slide by slide on presentations that matter. Start with the structure ('build 8 slides with headlines only'), review it, then expand one slide at a time. That gives you more control and a better result than asking for the whole deck in one go.
  • Start from raw data or a draft. Claude works much better when you give it concrete content, a document, an Excel sheet or notes, than when you ask it to invent the content from nothing.
