Wispr Flow

Wispr Flow lets you talk instead of type. Hold down a hotkey, speak naturally, release, and the text appears already polished inside whatever app you're in. Email, Slack, Word, Notion, anywhere. No copying, no pasting, no app switching.

The free plan lets you dictate up to 2,000 words per week.

What sets Wispr Flow apart from regular dictation (the one built into Mac or Windows) is that it tidies up as it goes. Filler words like "um" and "uh" disappear, punctuation is added, and it course-corrects when you say "no wait, make it Tuesday instead". On Mac and Windows, Flow can also use app context to adapt style and formatting, so an email ends up more formal than a Slack message.

Who it's for

People who write a lot during the day. If you send a lot of email, write reports or produce content, talking is noticeably faster than typing. Wispr Flow claims 4x the speed compared to typing, but it will of course vary from person to person depending on how fast you write and speak.

What you should know

All transcription happens in the cloud, so audio is processed on Wispr's servers and not only locally on the device. Regular users have a Privacy Mode with Zero Data Retention, and organisations can enforce it at the org level. At the same time, Flow uses app and context information to improve the results, so it's worth being careful with sensitive content. On Mac and Windows a dictation session can now last up to 20 minutes, while iPhone and Android have shorter per-session limits.

Command Mode (has to be enabled in settings) lets you select text and say "make this more professional" or "turn this into a bullet list" to edit without the keyboard.

How to use it

Download Wispr Flow from wisprflow.ai or your platform's app store. It's now available for Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android.

On Mac and Windows you usually start dictation with a hotkey.

On iPhone you use the Flow keyboard, and on Android you use the Flow Bubble.

On desktop you can also use Command Mode in Pro: select some text and give a spoken instruction.

Features

Dictate anywhere

Works in any app and any text field. On desktop you usually start with a hotkey; on mobile it happens via the keyboard or Flow Bubble, depending on the platform.

AI cleanup

Removes filler words, adds punctuation, course-corrects and adapts tone to context automatically.

Command Mode

Select text and give spoken instructions like "make it shorter", "more formal" or "turn into a bullet list". Command Mode requires a Pro subscription. Not available on mobile.

100+ languages

Supports Norwegian and over 100 other languages for dictation and editing.

Personal dictionary

Can learn names, technical terms and words you use often, so dictation gets better over time and you don't have to correct the same words again and again.

Tips for good use

  • Try it on email first. That's where most people feel the biggest time saving, because emails tend to get longer than they need to be when you type them.
  • Speak in full sentences, not keywords. Wispr Flow is better at polishing coherent speech than loose phrases.
  • Command Mode is gold for editing: select text and say "make this shorter" or "more formal". Requires Pro and has to be enabled in settings.
  • The 2,000 words per week on the free plan can be enough if you don't need to dictate a huge amount.
  • All audio is sent to cloud servers. Turn on Privacy Mode / Zero Data Retention, but you should still think carefully about whether you want to dictate strictly confidential or sensitive information.
