If your company lives in Microsoft 365 with Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Copilot is the simplest path to AI in everyday work. The AI isn't smarter than Claude or ChatGPT. It just sits where you already work.
What it means in practice
You type "prepare me for the sales meeting at 2pm" and Copilot pulls up relevant emails, documents and meeting notes without you searching. You open a long email thread and get a summary with action items. You're staring at a blank page in Word and ask Copilot to draft something based on a file in SharePoint. Without copying text to another tool.
The reason this works is Microsoft Graph. Copilot sees your company's emails, files, calendar events and Teams conversations. You don't need to explain context. It already knows who you work with and what you're working on.
The most important limitation
Copilot works best for those who invest time learning how to use it. Those who just turn it on without training are often disappointed. Files need to be in OneDrive or SharePoint, not local. Complex Excel modeling is weaker than Claude and ChatGPT. And $30/user/mo (or $18 promotional price through June 2026) is expensive for people who only use it occasionally.
Who is it for?
Companies already paying for Microsoft 365 who want AI in the tools people use daily. If you work alone or use Google Workspace, Gemini is a better choice. If you need the best AI for writing and coding, choose Claude or ChatGPT. Copilot is strongest at connecting AI to your company data.
